We fell in love with Los Angeles based Studio 1040 for their beautiful peach sapphires set in rose gold and adorned with diamonds (sounds like heaven right?). This jewelry shop should be a destination for any and all bohemian brides out there. The designs are unique, but feminine and lots of affordable but high quality options. We can attest to the quality as we got to play with a few of the pieces and they are beautifully made. We love showcasing designers that forging a design path that is all their own and Studio 1040 is a great example.
We fell in love with your peach sapphires pieces. What is a peach sapphire and why do you like working with them?
A peach sapphire is generally a peachy pink colored gemstone. The shades vary from a very light pink with just a hint of peach color, to an intense sunset peach. I love working with peach sapphires because the color looks so amazing in rose gold, which is a very popular metal color right now. Peach sapphires also go very well with all skin tones.
Tell us about your background and how you got in the jewelry business?
I’ve been working in the jewelry business for the past 12 years. I started off as a jewelry shop assistant for several years where I learned everything I know now. I took jewelry making classes as well. A few years later, I realized that maybe it’s time for me to move on upwards and focus all my energy on creating things that I had in mind. I eventually quit my job and decided to pursue my own career as a jewelry designer and business woman. I thought, what have I got to lose? If I fail in starting my own business, the worst thing that could happen is me going back to a regular job again. What really got me started though was when I met Thy, a jeweler who I worked with in designing and making my initial pieces which I planned to sell on Etsy. We worked for 2 years until I decided to open my own workshop/office without a partner. We parted very amicably, in fact he’s always invited in our company dinners and birthday parties.
What is your most popular piece right now?
The most popular item on our website is probably our white sapphire diamond halo rings. Our morganite rings was once our most popular item, but we noticed a sudden shift to white sapphire rings last year.
What trends do you see happening in the jewelry business?
The past 2-3 years were all about morganites and peach sapphires, but now we’re getting more and more requests for diamond rings. I definitely see them coming back; especially rose cut champagnes and brilliant cut champagnes. Also, a lot of our clients are requesting for certified and unheated sapphires. It is a nice surprise that the buying public is now more educated and more aware of the jewelry they buy. One piece of advice that I can give to anyone interested in buying jewelry is that you should never be afraid to ask questions! It’s important to know exactly what you are buying.
What do diamonds represent to you?
Diamonds to me represent luxury, tradition and love. They are nature’s most sparkling creation.
What is your favorite metal to work with?
My favorite metal is yellow gold, most of my jewelry is actually in 18K yellow gold. I just love the rich color.
