You know when a brand catches your eye on instagram? Liven Co. is that brand. It caught our eye first for having lovely jewelry but it also had that little extra special sauce the feels unique. Their work has very specific attention to detail that is mixed up with a new world approach that feels both structured and organic. There are definitely a few items in their assortment we are currently coveting like the sunrise ring, moonstone and diamond ring, and their lariat necklaces. But besides our top choices from this brand we were able to catch up with Ann who manages this family business to learn a little more about her and that what makes Liven Co. special.
Tell us about your background?
After venturing into the science field as a Chemist, I decided to pursue a Graduate Gemologist degree from GIA, and fell in love with the science of gems! At the time, I was debating about a career in medicine, but wanted to take a creative detour first. Little did I know that it would take me down a path that I would be on today.
After gaining a solid foundation at GIA, feeling confident in my learnings, I was excited to put my knowledge to use. I started working alongside my parents and took my family’s third generation business in a more current direction by designing contemporary pieces and collections that spoke to me. One of the first stores to pick up our line at the time was Fred Segal. It’s been an amazing journey so far, and I feel truly blessed to work with some amazing people. Seeing our designs a part of so many people’s amazing memories is such an honor. Delivering happiness in a little pouch never felt so good.
What is the backstory on Liven Co?
Liven has been in my family for generations. Through the years, jewelry styles may have changed, but one thing has remained constant — love and family. We are still very much a family business with a big heart. Our love for our craft and our customers who are like family is what keeps us motivated to continue on this creative journey.
Why do you love fine jewelry?
I love the sentimental value behind fine jewelry, and how fine jewelry pieces can transform the way you look and feel. Whether it be a family heirloom piece that makes you feel like you always have a little piece of home wherever you go, or that one piece that you love to live in because (pardon the cheesiness) it Liven’s your mood. I love how personal jewelry is; whether it be a personal attachment or expression of personal style.
Rose gold, white gold, or yellow gold what is your current favorite?
Currently coveting rose gold! Given my background in chemistry, I’m always intrigued by the alloy mixtures of the different colors of gold. So when it came down to deciding Liven’s rose gold alloy mixture, we chose a balanced composition that translated into a soft rosy color palate.
How would you describe your design aesthetic?
I love clean lines, and simplicity in design. Simple shapes and concepts that are beautifully executed speak volumes. Precision in design is something I truly appreciate.
Any advice on how to best online shop for fine jewelry?
For fine jewelry pieces, don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for additional guidance with your selection. They may be able to help you find the perfect piece, and it may not even be the piece that you originally inquired about.
What trends do you see happening in the fine jewelry industry?
90’s revival has come back full force with chokers leading the way. We’ve been having a blast designing our choker collection. We wanted them to be personal to each wearer, so we made them customizable with multiple leather colors, as well as interchangeable charms, and the ability to be worn as a wrap bracelet or a choker. Stay tuned as they start to roll out to our retailers. We may have a couple exclusive colors available on our site.
