We recently had the pleasure of spending some time with the well known fine jewelry company Fire & Brilliance. They are known particularly for their Moissanite rings, but are experts in all thing diamonds and customizable jewelry. This was the first time we had seen Moissanite in action and since we walked impressed and with new knowledge - we are sharing some reasons we learned you might want to consider a Moissanite stone for your engagement ring.
Make your own choices
Our goal is to create an all inclusive fine jewelry loving community and that means having an open mind to things like lab diamonds, Moissanite, and management rings. We want you to make your own choices about what is right for you by covering the gambit on our blog and that includes Moissanite.
What is Moissanite? Moissanite is an man-made mineral that is harder than other gemstones like rubies, emeralds, and sapphires. Bonus, it comes with twice the sparkle of the diamond at a fraction of the cost and is renowned for being socially responsible, as it not mined from the earth.
You may be wondering what is with the funky name (we were). It was actually named after Nobel-Prize Winning Scientist Dr. Henri Moissan who discovered the mineral in a 50,000 year old fallen meteorite more than 100 years ago. Yes it can be earth mined too, but that is actually rarer these days than finding a diamonds so the Moissanite you see today is made in a lab. Fire & Brilliance actually works with moissanite manufactured and graded by the original creator of lab-moissanite, Charles and Colvard.
Double the sparkle the double the fun
We can definitely vouch for the fact that Moissanite has double the sparkle of a diamond (in fact 2.4 times the sparkle). This was our first time seeing it in person and fire in these rocks is seriously insane! The only why to capture the fire is in video...
You can do you
Moissanite is just like working with diamonds or other gemstones everything is fully customizable by Fire & Brilliance and their founders are super creative to make sure you get exactly the ring you dreamed. In addition, they have gorgeous styles to get mind your working on what might suit you in a variety of customizable options in diamonds, moissanite, and gemstones (you could scroll for hours on their website). Some our favorites from their arsenal were the the Francesca, the Duchess, and the Anastasia nearly came home with us. We have been craving a marquise shaped ring for our pointer finger but that is another blog post.
Asscher cut comes in Moissanite?
If you have been following Gem Hunt, you know our hands down favorite cut is the asscher, so to us, this is a selling point worth mentioning. Until recently, asscher cut moissanite were not yet available in the colorless Forever One (the premier colorless kind of Moissanite), only in the near-colorless Forever Brilliant. Now, you can get our favorite cut in Forever One Moissanite right here. Seeing it up close and personal, we got giddy with excitement when we saw the fire emitting from this favorite step cut of ours.
About the money
Look we are certified gem addicts and our tastes honestly come and go. One minute we are coveting stacking bands and other we can't live without 1 carat diamond studs in each ear (don't laugh). Moissanite is a much more affordable diamond alternative. To give you and example a good quality 1 carat stone will probably set you back around $5,000 but a great quality Moissanite only around $600 and look if that means we can fulfill more of our jewelry dreams we are all for it.
If you want to do more research to see if moissanite is for you, Fire & Brilliance has some great information on their website that you can find here, where they address your additional burning questions about how this diamond alternative compares to other options.
