I am huge a fan of the Los Angeles-based fine jewelry brand - Willow Roe. It started with a mutual love of baguette shaped diamonds of which Willow Roe offers many cool styles using them. However, baguette diamonds ignited the spark but over time I fell in love with the rest of the line for its fun, new classic vibe, and love of all different metals - yellow gold, white gold, rose gold - you can definitely pick your poison with Willow Roe. I was excited to interview Karyn one of the founders to learn more about her design inspiration and how being in Los Angeles effects her aesthetic. If you are a fan of these cool jewels, I would definitely read the below interview.
How did you get started on Willow Roe?
After graduating from FIDM I had a very successful clothing company. After years of clothing, I want to venture into accessories. I was designing costume jewelry for some time before my husband, Tal Capelouto from Element Diamonds who is a diamond wholesaler and private jeweler decided to combine forces, and Willow Roe was born.
You have amazing unique designs, where do you find inspiration?
I’m most inspired by my life and what I want to my jewelry to provide for my outfit. Everything happening around me momentarily is my best source of inspiration, from current trends, Social media, travel, foods, my life, it’s all part of it. Things I’m exposed to on a daily basis from colors to textures.
How does being a Los Angeles brand affect your design aesthetic?
Los Angeles has it all, and so much of it, and thus new trends are born so quickly. There is so much of every type of beauty and category in Los Angeles. There is so much to be inspired by, from the architecture to the beaches, to Hollywood and the mass amounts of people. It’s the melting pot and therefore so much creativity and style are seen here. Los Angeles Is the birthplace of so much creativity. So many people bringing a Unique sense of style to impact those around them.
What’s your favorite fine jewelry trend right now?
My favorite trend happening right now are baguettes. Baguette diamonds are being incorporated once again into fine jewelry adding a flare to the dainty norm. I love their cut and luster. They have come back strong.
Why do you love diamonds and fine jewelry?
I love diamonds and fine jewelry for a variety of reasons, essentially because both are purchased in a moment of love that generates a beautiful story. Those pieces of jewelry symbolize hope, love, wonder, excitement and endless positive feelings. They become a piece of history handed down with a beautiful story. Another reason, it's always fascinating how diamonds form naturally over billions of years in the earth. Their composition, strength, and beauty are astounding and incredibly interesting. The way these crystals can be cut in different methods to best enhance their composition is captivating.
Rose gold, yellow gold or white gold…what’s your favorite?
Personally, I love rose gold. I love the softness and daintiness of the pink hue and how it blends with my skin tone.
What’s a fine jewelry trend you wish would die?
I'm not a fan of snakes. I followed the trend and begrudgingly added a couple pieces to my collection but I’m no fan of this trend.
