What are salt and pepper diamonds? They are becoming increasingly popular and one of our personal favorites so we thought we would take a moment to break it down for you!
Let's back it up, most diamonds have flaws known as inclusions. There can be all different kinds of inclusions and they can be black, white or all kinds of different shapes, sizes, and even colors! "Salt and Pepper" is a colloquial term that refers Salt = white inclusions and Pepper = black inclusions. That's where the term salt and pepper comes from!
Even diamonds in clarity grades we are more familiar with when buying more traditional engagement rings like VS1 or SI can have these white and black inclusions; they are just much smaller and less noticeable than when looking at a Salt and Pepper diamonds. Salt and Pepper diamonds as you can see basically have lots of these inclusions and that is where the beauty lies.
They show the real flaws of the diamond and more the natural beauty of a diamond. The standard of perfection that a flawless diamond holds, can be seemingly unattainable or represent a societal pressure that feels impossible to measure up to; that may not symbloize for you what you are looking for and that's why some people love Salt and Pepper diamonds because they present their flaws for all to see. At the same time, each pattern is unique, like all of us or to get sappy - our love.
