I am so happy to bring your this interview because Ashleigh Bergman's Instagram account (she goes by @milestones_by_ab) is one of my personal favorites to follow. This lady has exceptional taste and seriously the best engagement ring/wedding band combo I have ever seen. A mega Radiant Cut, Round Cut Eternity band, and a Trinity ring all on one finger? Call me superficial but I want to be friends with her just based on that. Ain't no one mixed cuts and metals like Ashleigh.
Bonus points, you are in luck because this babe can also make jewelry dreams come true. She is jewelry concierge, helping with custom engagement rings, to picking out push presents to just helping you get that perfect stack. With a background in the industry for years and a love of all things sparkly, I would die to go jewelry shopping with Ashleigh for the day. In this interview she gives us some great tips on styling jewelry that makes it a must read.
What is your signature piece of jewelry?
The combination of my obsession with jewelry and my tendency to be fickle at times forces me to change my jewelry almost daily. The only pieces that never changes are the rings in my wedding stack. I wear my engagement ring, wedding band (which is a trinity ring, the more the merrier), and push present from my first child every day. I have long fingers and love to pile it on!
Do you have a jewelry style icon?
Though our tastes sometimes vary, my former boss, business partner, mentor, jewelry designer and one of my best friends Nina Segal is definitely one of my jewelry style icons. She’s always inspired me to wear what I love and not give a shit about the trend. She trusts her instincts and her jewelry combos always flow and look effortlessly put together, even when she is bopping around in a tee and jeans. Not to mention she has a sick personal collection which is definitely to be envied!
What is the best part of being a jewelry concierge?
I love working with men to find them the perfect gift and even more so to create the quintessential engagement ring for their fiancé to be. Buying an engagement ring is usually one of the person’s biggest purchases to date, and it can be such a stressful, daunting and confusing experience. “Diamond language” and “Man language” are worlds apart, and I really take pride in interpreting, educating and advising the gentleman, while still advocating for the ladies.
Rose gold, white gold, or yellow gold?
All of it, heaps and piles of it, bathe in it. I don’t discriminate.
How does your job and life affect how you style your style jewelry?
As long as I can remember jewelry has been a part of my life, through adolescence (80’s baby who used to steal from Mommy’s insane oversized earring collection), teenage years when I started learning the ropes professionally at Fred Segal, and throughout my professional career as a Retail Buyer, Corporate Consultant, then Jewelry Personal Shopper. Starting a family did change things a bit just due to the fact that I had less time to play in my jewel box every morning. But one thing has never changed; for me, it’s all about what makes you comfortable. And what makes me comfortable is jewelry. Lots of it. All kinds. Hi, low, sparkle, understated, chunky, delicate, contemporary, vintage…you get the point.
Favorite jewelry trend of the moment?
I am really feeling all the modern updates on the classic hoop silhouette…front facing hoops, wrap around the lobe hoops, split/multi huggies. Let's face it, when it comes to jewelry it is rare to see something that has never been done before. So I get excited when someone takes a time-honored staple and flips it.
Best pro-tip for building jewelry wardrobe?
My mom is an interior designer and she has passed these wise words down to me - "It is all about mixing the zircons with the diamonds and making them all look like diamonds”. I totally live by this! Everything in your personal collection doesn’t have to be expensive. Buy what you love whether it is $100 or $1,000. If you love it, it will outlast the trend cycle and you will be able to wear it for years to come.
