One of our favorite trends du jour is the use of Montana Sapphires in jewelry! If you have seen these bewitching blue-green sapphire popping up everywhere on Instagram, catching your eye...you are not alone! We love them too.
But what are they and how are they different from the regular deep blue sapphires you usually see? Most commonly we expect to see sapphires hailing from India or Madagascar. But Montana is quickly becoming known for their amazing sapphires and not to sound dumb, but yes Montana sapphires actually come from Montana!
Sapphires were first found in Montana in 1865 by gold miners. These sapphires were the first ever ones found in the U.S. that are of gem quality (good enough to use in jewelry). Montana is actually the only place in the U.S. where you can find natural sapphires. Montana sapphires actually come in a full range of colors but the ones that are quite popular now are that are almost blushish-green or teal color.
Montana sapphires are a great option because they come from the U.S. and they offer a unique color many find capitivating.
