Ellie Air is a British jewelry brand we have been coveting for awhile. She makes beautiful jewels but also has a romantic penchant for the moon, stars, and the skies that is woven throughout her work, that we can't just resist. We are delighted to announce she is one of the jewelers that is apart of the Diamond Campaign a pop-up collaboration between Gem Breakfast and Dream Diam and to share this interview we did to get to know her better.
How did you get started with your brand?
I studied as an apprentice in Cambridge and Florence, and when I came back to London I was sat in a pizzeria (keeping the Italian theme going!) and realized all I wanted to do was make jewelry — and Ellie Air was born! My initials are LER so I went with the pseudonym Ellie Air.
Where do you get inspiration from?
All around me, all day every day. I’m not sure my inspiration comes from any one place, more so that things throughout the day — from sitting on the tube, places I go, people I pass in the street, photos and art I see — amalgamate and I’ll wake in the middle of the night with a new collection or design in mind. Having said that, antique styles, both in jewelry and objects, and astronomy infiltrate into designs as I’m thinking about them all the time!
What excites you about this project with Gem Breakfast?
Being part of the Diamond Tribe is the perfect way to make the lonely days at the bench to feel not so lonely — knowing that the rest of the tribe are out there doing the same and cheerleading for you is such a boost! This project means that we all get to work together, make friends for life and work with the amazing Cat and Ash who have so much passion for what we all do.
I also love diamonds and being able to create a ring with input from the people buying the finished product is icing on the cake when it comes to bespoke jewelry!
What’s your favorite color diamond?
I’m a monochrome girl, so it’ll be black diamonds, salt and pepper diamonds, grey diamonds, or clear white diamonds! I’ve fallen hard in love with some icy, fluorescent and included white diamonds recently, too!
Do you have a favorite piece of jewelry?
A silver moon pendant, given to me on our first anniversary, and a diamond and emerald ring, inherited from my Grandma, given to her by my Grandad while they were living in Asia.
When I’m not designing jewelry I am…
Eating pizza, watching baseball, or staring at the skies (I’m an amateur astronomer!).
Lauren will be commissioning a one of kind ring for Gem Breakfast. Make sure you follow along to see what she makes!
